About the Image(s)
This lioness and cub were in the grass next to a bridge on the Sand River in the Mala Mala game preserve, which adjoins Krueger National Park in South Africa in late March. We found them there both days we did game drives. The lioness was nursing four cubs, probably not all her own, according to the ranger. I shot this fairly tight to avoid having to worry about a lot of grass. Light was relatively low so cranked up the ISO 3200 but still had to deal down the shutter to 1/200th second. Fortunately, they didn’t move for this one as most of the motion shots weren’t much good as the cubs bounded around. Popped the saturation a little and got rid of some blades of grass over the animal’s faces. Left the rest alone.
Nikon Z-72 camera. Tamron 150 to 600 , f5-6.3 at 420 mm.

The reason for the tight crop was trying to avoid having grass over everything. It was tough enough just keeping a clear view of the animal's facts
