I drove up to the Blue Ridge Mountains to photograph the Perseids even though I wasn’t sure if the conditions would be good due to thunderstorms. Since I had time before setting up my cameras for the evening, I decided to explore the area a bit when I saw the rainbow. I thought even if the night sky is a bust, this rainbow makes up for it. However since a rainbow is the sign of hope, I had no worries about an agreeable night sky. Basic post processing was done in LR – highlights, shadows, white balance, and vibrance.

You captured a brilliant rainbow. I like you included the fence and trees which for me provide a sense of place and interest to an otherwise just a rainbow shot. The DOF and sharpness of the image also work well for me. I would consider warming the sky to see what it would look like rather than the strong blue color.   Posted: 09/12/2023 16:29:18
A very special capture. I like the warm tones in the grass and the cold in the sky. The light and shadows in the forest make it interesting. The rainbow is, of course, the main subject in this image. The fence balances the intense light and enhances the composition. My only suggestion is to crop the sky to about 5:7 in order to balance sky and ground.   Posted: 09/20/2023 02:05:26
Hopefully this was a lucky shot and you were able to later capture some perseid meteors. This is a nice shot. I agree with Arne, a slight crop down from the top may balance the photo. The colors are very nice. I've heard fences that cut across the image block the eye, but I don't get that in this image. I do wonder if this was shot more to the left and closer to the fence, so that the fence is more on an angle, how the composition would look. That way the fence could be more of a leading line and you would have angles between the fence and trees.   Posted: 09/22/2023 12:10:42
Sorry about the delay in making my comment. I'm traveling and my camera is taking up my time.
Some grand even in the sky never really carries an image, we human, bound to the earth as we are, crave a grounding. T he multiple layers of grass, fencing, dried grass, shadowed brush and trees really add a feeling of great depth and make this image work. I especially like how the light of the rainbow seems to be lighting the distant trees. I do feel the sky could be cropped at least down to the middle of the clouds   Posted: 09/23/2023 10:10:31
