Tree and Dunes by Marti Buckely

May 2023 - Tree and Dunes

About the Image(s)

This is the original - the only thing I did with this was to add a small stroke. I liked the kind of artistic look. I had to make sure this was the original and nothing had been done to it. I took this in the winter (pretty obvious) on the dunes in Michigan. It was shot in RAW at f/5.0 and 1/200. ISO 800.

Love this natural effect which looks like something artificial from Topaz. However, my eye would like to see a little more room on the left side. I bet you can get more interesting effects from Topaz.   Posted: 05/04/2023 16:10:25

This is the RAW shot - nothing done to it. I might try seeing what Topaz would do with it - or On1.   Posted: 05/04/2023 16:18:22

Marti, it also gives the impression of a painting. Do you have other pictures of that day?   Posted: 05/05/2023 13:25:23

An interesting view. Would like to have seen more definition of the reeds to better identify the subject.   Posted: 05/05/2023 09:32:34

Hi Marti. What do mean ... you 'added a small stroke' ...?
Thank you.

Hi Lance - thanks for visiting. There is a small brown "border" around the image. A stroke (in the PS Edit menu) creates a frame around an image.   Posted: 05/07/2023 07:39:40

This has a very artsy look. I'm not sure what I would do with it because I wouldn't want to lose that painterly effect. Maybe crop out some of the upper part of the tree and leave just the lower branches and the ground?? Or even adding a touch of blur to the top portion of the image? I think if you play around with it you'll get something very interesting.   Posted: 05/09/2023 16:20:16

A lovely capture. Worth framing or putting on a notecard.   Posted: 05/16/2023 09:13:25

Interesting effect, with pale and subtle tones. The composition might be somewhat unbalanced, in that my eye is drawn strongly to the upper left with its myriad intersecting lines. Might a crop downward help with giving a little more visual weight to the lower right?   Posted: 05/22/2023 06:45:14

It definitely has an artsy feel to it. I like the leading lines from the bottom of the trunk up as well as the sculpting lines of the grass. It has visual weight at the top but most of the grasses and branches lead my eye up and to the right.   Posted: 05/27/2023 09:17:11
