About the Image(s)

This is a portrait of my dog nephew taken on a cold January day three years ago. He needed a sweater to keep warm while he was running and playing in his backyard. I took a shot to capture the action as best I could. His natural colors are black, white, and grey perfect for a monochrome image. Processed in Photoshop and Nik Silver Efex.
Nikon D850; 16-80 lens @ 80mm; 1/400 second; ISO 250

It always makes me smile to see a dog in a woolly coat. This definitely looks better in black and white and positioning in the square format is good with the angle of the dog contrasted with the angle of the flag stones. This, coupled with the obvious action pose of the body, emphasises the movement of the dog playing. Good detail in the whites and I like the darkening of the corners to help bring attention in to the subject.

Barbara this is a really fun image even more so because you describe Maverick as your 'dog nephew', a relationship which is quite difficult to work out but I'm sure it is a happy one! This works well in mono and you have captured his energy well. The angle helps that and the blur on his front legs gives the image its sense of movement. There is a glint in his eye too which adds to the whole image.

Barbara--This image made me smile; we had a schnauzer when I was growing up and I remember her enthusiasm for play. I like the action pose a lot. I agree with Robin about the square format and the diagonals created by the paving stones. I also noticed the glint in his eye which really brings the image to life. Nice image.   Posted: 07/21/2024 16:25:43

Very nice image and definitely well suited to black and white. All of the dogs that I have had seemed to very much NOT like any kind of sweater or outer garment. Since I am of the Western Hemisphere I decided to see what the image would look like if I turned it 180 degrees. I think I like it better that way so that the leading line goes up from left to right.
