About the Image(s)
Details: This image was taken last month at an agricultural show in a small village called Dunster in North Somerset UK. At this show there was an unusual option to get close to the judging of the livestock and this gave me the opportunity to find a shot which was a little different - at least I hope so! This young girl, like several other youngsters were proudly exhibiting their sheep and it was clear that there was a bond between them. At the point of taking this image, the judge (seen in the background) had singled her out for the next round of judging and she was really pleased and gave her sheep a stroke on its head. It was dull day with a bland sky so I have changed it and worked on the image to hopefully give it more life. The improved image works well in colour but thought I would show the mono version to the group for feedback.
Taken on a Fuji XT3 1/125 f11 ISO 800.

I have myself tried to make these scenes from English farm shows into a useable image - and I must compliment you on your success: the portrait of youth is an excellent hook.
The one change I might offer is to add a little to the left : one more human. In my opinion the judge - strong enough to be a secondary subject - is too close to the edge.
By the way - do you find that second sheep a little distracting?   Posted: 09/04/2023 15:56:30
Many thanks for your comments. Great that you liked this and for your helpful comments. And yes the second sheep is rather amusing and probably distracting but I cannot do anything about that on this occasion! It looks different from what was actually going on.

Nice shot, Peter. I prefer the black and white version, I think it works better for street photography. The little girl and lamb are sharply focused against the softly blurred action in the background. Nice texture on the grass. You captured the story.
The only change I would make is to allow more space on the left of the frame as Gerard has suggested. Everything else is part of the story and well done.   Posted: 09/11/2023 11:11:19
