Pincushion by Mark Lieberman

October 2026 - Pincushion

About the Image(s)

The Pincushion image was captured handheld with the Olympus OM1 camera in aperture priority, f7.1, ISO 200, 1/80 sec, multi-segment metering, and 0EV at 60 mm (120mm 35mm equivalent). The original color image was converted to black & white in Luminar Neo with black/white point adjustments as well as highlight and contrast adjustments. Additional adjustments were made in Adobe Photoshop Elements with the NIK Collection 9 Color Efex filter to darken the background foliage.

Immediately captivating with the graphical almost architectural structure of the pincushion. Not sure what color the original was but the flower has the same tonal value throughout. I wish there would be more variation and highlight to give it dimensionality. Some of the leaves and the stem approach the same brightness and become distracting to me.   Posted: 10/06/2026 17:35:18

The pincushion flower is lovely. The fine details are sharp, and it contrasts well against the dark background. I think the image is a bit flat. Perhaps if you changed your perspective (shoot from the side) it would have created more dimension in the flower. Nice shot, Mark.   Posted: 10/10/2026 17:09:59
