August 2026 - Oslo Sculpture

Frogner Park in Oslo showcases over 200 sculptures by Gustav Vigeland and it's a wonderful place to take pictures. The naked human figures doing various things are fascinating and I was having a great time shooting when my camera battery died. Back then I had not yet figured out to always have extra batteries with me but I learned, as they say, the hard way. This is my favorite of the ones I was able to capture. I hope you enjoy it.

A monumental sculpture that still elicits an emotional response from me. The composition emphasizes its power and dominance, while the idealized facial features contrast with the clouds and receding background reinforcing its imposing presence.
The granite's natural texture lends subtle character to the idealized forms, preventing them from appearing overly smooth or sterile. perfectly captured.

Thanks for sharing this impressive image from Oslo. You captured his chiseled features nicely and close up. I like the light and shadows on his face. I have a minor suggestion. I cropped in on the right side to make it a square crop. Nicely done, Kathleen. Posted: 08/09/2026 18:07:08

You have brought out the textures beautifully, setting the hard stone form against a soft, cloud studded sky. But - apart from enjoying your photographic skill, it leaves me cold. It's just a picture of a statue. Sorry. Posted: 08/17/2026 08:59:35
