For this portrait of my wife’s niece I took 4 photographs and joined them together to give a slightly different perspective. As you can see, she was delighted to have her portrait made!

The portrait has a strong subject and an engaging expression.
I am certainly familiar with that attitude towards my photographic obession from family.
I found myself wondering about the horizontal collage effect, though. Since the seams are so prominent, they become a major part of the image, and I wasn't entirely sure what they were intended to add to the portrait. Thanks Chris. The seams were, at the time, a way of exploring leaving some of the process on show, rather than simply presenting a polished image - which is, of course, quite possible. It's a bit like the way some view camera photographers used to include the selvidge of the negative when printing. Posted: 08/03/2026 13:30:09

Robin -- My initial reaction to this image was pretty negative; the messy clothes, the rude gesture... What is Robin showing us here? Eventually I realized the thing that bothers me about this image is the face; her eyes are not discernible and the rest of the face seems oddly mask-like. But perhaps that is the story of this image: with the visible "seams" which match up not quite perfectly, and the challenging (for the viewer) subject, I get a sense of dislocation and disturbance. The little metal fence indicates some kind of a border with rather forbidding-looking woods beyond; a creepy setting. Thanks for showing us something unusual! Posted: 08/22/2026 15:59:21
