This was taken in Austria a few years ago. I've seen - and heard - alphorns a few times but this was the largest group I ever saw (about twenty-five alphorns); the sound was wonderful. I find the alphorns visually interesting and it was lucky to get a bunch of them together. The picturesque musician helps tell the story. I hope you enjoy it!

I really like the character of the gentleman in the foreground and the wonderful leading lines of the alphorns. My only minor observation is that the busy background with all the bicycles draws my eye away from the main subject a little. Otherwise, it's a very engaging image full of character. Like Barbara's picture, the cluttered background is inevitable in this sort of shot. The gentleman's expression shows the passion and enjoyment of his colleagues in their playing of this unusal instrument. Posted: 07/10/2026 09:44:54
Great street shot, Kathleen. I do enjoy the story of the musicians on the street. The pleasant smile of the gentleman and the alphorns invite me into the scene. I like the busy background since it adds context to the street scene. Love the sepia tone. Posted: 07/11/2026 00:14:23
