About the Image(s)
This was taken several years ago in the lovely Adriatic town of Piran while I was walking along the harborfront. I just got lucky when the fisherman in his boat looked right at me just as I pressed the shutter; it wasn't planned. In general, I try to be discreet about taking pictures of people in public places. Here, when I realized I'd been "caught", I just kept making shots of the boats and the beautiful scene and hoped the guy did not realize I had just taken his picture. In any case, I was happy with what I got. I hope you enjoy it.

He's certainly wondering what the mad woman is doing. Some might not like the cut off bits and the clutter of the other boat, but that doesn't bother me. It all adds to the busy fuss of this sort of mooring. I am getting used to your toning, but, somethimes, I long for a juicy, punchy black and white. It would suit this one.   Posted: 04/06/2026 09:13:27
Thanks, Robin. I should have removed the warm toning on this, as you say. An oversight on my part. Thanks for your feedback.   Posted: 04/09/2026 17:00:28
Kathleen, this is a great shot of someone going about their daily work and I love the look on his face. I think he realised he'd been photographed - maybe you were lucky to get away without having a fish thrown at you! This is a good candid shot and I like the composition which includes extra elements that explain this ma's story.   Posted: 04/08/2026 09:56:05
Thank you, Peter.   Posted: 04/09/2026 17:00:49
Hi Kathleen,
You captured a great street shot with a story. The fisherman's expression makes one wonder why he turned his head. (I know it was you). You caught him at work in an old, tarnished boat. Nice shot. I always enjoy your street shots. You have a good eye.   Posted: 04/08/2026 23:31:37

Great every-day documentary shot with an extra bonus of the connection with the fisherman. His direct gaze is just wonderful. It makes the photo "pop" and provides me as a viewer a direct and powerful human connection. I feel like I am there. Converting it into monochrome was a good choice. You have a broad range of tonalities and tonal separation throughout the photo. While the composition is strong, I think it would benefit from slightly expanding the frame on the left to give more room to the boat and its reflection. Just a few millimeters increase would feel better, in my opinion.   Posted: 04/13/2026 18:54:35
