The Unobservant Birdwatcher by Peter Elliston

April 2026 - The Unobservant Birdwatcher

About the Image(s)

I saw this elderly gentleman birdwatcher in a bird hide once when on a visit to the Somerset Levels. He was all equipped for bird watching but instead was being watched - maybe?! A fitting image for April 1st ‘All Fools’ Day’? Taken on Fuji XT1 1/125 f4. ISO400

A fitting comment on birdwatchers and a good joke. Perfect for April Fool's Day.   Posted: 04/06/2026 09:05:06

Love the story! Well exposed with sharp details. The bird is closely watching the man. Great find. Nicely captured, Peter.   Posted: 04/07/2026 18:50:17

Peter--A very good joke! The bird is somewhat sinister and the man with his birdwatching gear is happily oblivious. First it surprised me, then it made me laugh. Great fun.   Posted: 04/09/2026 16:32:24

You have great sense of humor, but even without the evil bird watching the birdwatcher, I do appreciate your wonderful and candid portrait of the man. He seems totally unaware or alternatively very familiar with you. His weathered face, gentle smile, and faraway gaze tell a story of a man that is happy with his life and time spent outdoors. Including binoculars add nicely to that story. Then it is the evil-looking bird looking at him behind his back, which adds so much more to the story. Creative and charming photo.   Posted: 04/13/2026 19:00:19
