About the Image(s)

I do not generally take sport pictures but I recently bought a long telephoto lens to see if I could manage it and for other types of shot. So this is an early effort and it made me realise how patient you have to be with sports photography especially if you want to capture a significant moment. I converted this to mono as it was a very bright day and handling the colour of the grass was a problem. Maybe it could be sharper but this was without a tripod and even for a relatively lightness, it is still difficult to keep steady without one. Taken on a Fuji XT3 1/1000 F6.7 ISO 640

Nice job catching the action. The players stand out against the dark background. Nicely composed. However, it appears a bit noisy on my computer. Good action shot and story.   Posted: 12/03/2025 16:13:08

I knew absolutely nothing about cricket before I saw your picture, but thanks to you I now have a little, little idea of certain concepts, like "bowled out", "batsman", "flying bails" - all I learned from looking at YouTube. With that in mind, I have a deep admiration for your outstanding capture of "The Decisive Moment". Handheld camera with a long telephoto lens that was new to you - I am truly impressed. Being able to capture perfectly when two bails are flying, the batsman executing his shot, the ball flying in the air, and the other player in deep concentration is impressive. I think that the conversion to Black and White handled the bright conditions very well. You have a great composition with good separation both between the two players as well as between the players and the background. Face realities - you are a born sports photographer! Very well done.   Posted: 12/11/2025 18:17:34

Great stop-action image which captures the impending catch and facial expressions of both the batter and catcher. The position of the bat helps to direct the viewer toward the ball and catcher's glove.   Posted: 12/18/2025 15:16:57
