Pouring Water by Barbara Asacker

July 2025 - Pouring Water

About the Image(s)

I tried to capture the stream and droplets of water as I poured it into a glass. An off camera flash and tripod were used to accomplish the task. It was a fun exercise.

Misson accomplished! Lovely contrast, arrested motion and textures. You have even set the glass slightly off centre, which I like. I assume you drank your subject, afterwards.   Posted: 07/11/2025 12:57:33

Great capture. I like the combination of the fluid still streaming into the glass with bubbles. The glimmering texture of the glass and the reflection add to the image.   Posted: 07/14/2025 00:08:12

Barbara, this is a well taken image requiring quite a lot of patience I expect to get it looking as good as this. The black background really helps define the bass and pouring water and the reflection provides a base for the image without which the glass would be floating. Were you pouring the steer at the same time as releasing the shutter? Or was the camera on time release?   Posted: 07/17/2025 08:27:33

Hi Peter. I took this image two years ago. If I remember correctly, I used a remote trigger in one hand as I poured the water with the other. I didn't use time release.   Posted: 07/17/2025 13:17:47

Barbara--I always find "stopped" water to be an interesting subject and this is superb. The glass itself is beautiful and the water is wonderful. I love the series of droplets suspended in the air and the bubble. You must have made several shots to end up with this nice arrangement.   Posted: 07/26/2025 15:13:49

Thank you, Kathleen. Yes, I took many shots and poured lots of water before settling for this image. It was my first and last attempt. It was fun!   Posted: 07/26/2025 15:41:36
