About the Image(s)
This minimalist landscape was taken handheld with a Sony RX10M4 camera in aperture priority, ISO100, f5.6, 1/640 sec, multi-segment metering, 0EV at 85mm. The original image was captured in color and converted to monochrome in Luminar Neo with additional adjustments made in the NIK collections Silver Efex. My intention was to take a stark landscape with a path leading to a single, well placed tree.

Hi Mark,
Great minimalist image. It's a perfect scene. Nicely composed with the path leading toward the tree. Sharp details on the tree. My only suggestion would be to soften the clouds a bit. I really like this image.   Posted: 04/06/2025 17:25:26

This is a beautiful capture of a lone leafless tree with a single bird sitting peacefully on one of its branches. The tree with the bird creates a strong focal point against the dramatic sky. Your photo takes me into a meditative feeling through its simplicity and isolation of the subject(s). The tonal ranges are excellent and the contrast between the dark tree and bright clouds creates visual drama, while the winding path takes my eyes for a trip around the image at the same time as it adds interest to the foreground. It is a striking image as it is now, but somehow, I wondered how it would look like with a slightly tighter crop, where the tree would be right in the center to emphasize its central position, the lone bird, the tree-sky relationship, as well as the curve of the path. What do you think?   Posted: 04/07/2025 22:40:33
Hi Maude:
Thank you for your comments and suggestions. This is already a cropped image compared to the original. I didn't crop any tighter since I like the staggered clouds that also lead you to the tree. I also wanted to have the path start at the lower left corner.   Posted: 04/09/2025 03:38:47

Mark, your title certainly sums up what this image is! But it is what it is and it is perfect for it. A great composition with the winding path and the positioning of the tree. I love the way the tree is reaching up to the cloud above it. I think your composition works well and would not crop it tighter as you would lose some of the expanse of the image and sense of a wide open space.   Posted: 04/13/2025 08:32:45
This is a great composition. I like the way the path leads from the corner and takes the eye to the main subject. The sky is lovely. The only thing, for my taste, is I would like it to be more contrasty.   Posted: 04/20/2025 08:00:15
