Cat Snapped by Peter Elliston

March 2025 - Cat Snapped

About the Image(s)

This actually a composite of two images - a rather aggressive cat and some interesting shadows on a window blind in a National Trust house we had visited. I have done several different images using the shadows on the window blind as a kind of setting for unusual images other than the cat. Whilst this one works fairly well as a colour shot I also thought I’d try a mono version and will be interested to hear what you think of it. Both images taken on a Fuji XT1 and the blind shot at 1/125 @f9 ISO 100.

Spooky! The cat's stare is intense. The composition is unique and holds my interest. It's artsy. Nice job, Peter.   Posted: 03/08/2025 18:39:35

A great abstract image that captured the sense of a scary black cat, with a fixed stare from the window -- perfect for Halloween.   Posted: 03/10/2025 11:50:17

I love this haunting high-contrast image. It is excellent in black and white - but I would love to see it in color too. It is a mystical minimalist composition where I as the viewer form my own interpretation of a story. I see a haunting stark contrast window with an equally stark contrast cat lurking behind dark curtains. It is to me like a moody Nordic Noir scene with the cat's glowing and evil eyes as focus. Is it guarding the house, is it an intruder, or is it just my imagination? I cannot be sure, and that also adds to the thrill. Great picture.   Posted: 03/14/2025 17:17:30

A very graphic representation of a cat with an evil stare. A good story too; are the bars holding it in? (it looks scary enough to be imprisoned) or keeping it out. And what is it up to? The treatment shows how a minimalist composition can still say a lot.   Posted: 03/20/2025 18:33:26

Peter-- The first thing I see is the cat's tattered right ear; he's a fighter for sure. I really like that the bars of the "frame" are wavy, (thanks for explaining the shadows on a blind); it's more dynamic. Honestly, this image suggests a horror movie to me: "The Attack of the Giant Feline", perhaps. I like the polarized effect on the cat. Very creative!
