About the Image(s)

We rode the train from Oslo to Bergen where we would get on one of the coastal ferries to Trondheim. I liked Bergen's train station; like most things in Norway it was clean and orderly. I like this image so I decided to show it to you guys. I hope you enjoy it.

The composition of the photo helps to lead the viewer into the image -- the position of the seated people (leading line) and the trains. I would suggest a small crop on the left to reduce distraction. I initially thought the skate boarder was a distraction, however, the skater does bring my view back into the photo. I would increase the overall contrast to reveal more detail -- especially at the end of the terminal which is too bright.   Posted: 02/01/2025 17:24:24

Hi Kathleen,
Good story of passengers waiting for the next train. Your perspective leads my eye through the train station. I find the architecture to be the most interesting part of the image. I like the repeating pattern of the overhead arches leading to the arched window. Nice job.   Posted: 02/09/2025 00:44:37

Thankyou, Barbara. I like the arches, too. Architecture is always interesting, I think.   Posted: 02/13/2025 16:54:18

Kathleen, I really enjoy your street scenes or ones of buildings you have visited and this is another of them. I like the way we are liked in from left to right ending up with the skateboarder on the right. I would suggest that the far distance where the station arch is could be darkened slightly as it very bright. And you are right this is certainly a very clean station!   Posted: 02/09/2025 17:23:03

Thankyou, Peter. I actually darkened this a little when I was preparing it but not enough, I guess. I just got lucky with the skateboarder being there.   Posted: 02/13/2025 16:57:54

Another masterly photograph! I love the lines but it is the people that draw you in to the picture. You even got the two with bags to hang them on the same shoulder!!! But seriously the way the figures are arranged plus the touch of the skateboarder introducing movement, is just wonderful. My wife wants me to tell you that she has enjoyed all your photographs and feels you have an incredible 'eye' for great pictures.   Posted: 02/10/2025 07:50:28

Robin, Your comment had me glowing for the rest of the day. Thank you! And please thank your wife for her kind thoughts. I did not notice the similar shoulder straps until you pointed it out so I can't take credit for that. I also think the figures are important elements because of how they are distributed. I sure was grateful for that skateboarder!   Posted: 02/13/2025 17:39:07
