About the Image(s)

Photo taken during a vacation at Kennebunkport, Maine. It was a quiet, foggy morning and the visibility was perfect for an ethereal look for the photo. I didn’t have to do much processing to make it into a monochrome image. Although I liked the color version, I think the monochrome version accentuates the fog.

Camera info: Photo taken with an Olympus C-770 digital camera. 1/640 sec at f/5 and ISO 64.

Processing: In Lightroom I turned the image into monochrome, slightly adjusted the black and white points to improve the contrast a little, then added a slight vignette.

The subdued lighting seems key to me in this image, conveying the moodiness of the morning fog. I tried several approaches with lightening and could not retain your quiescence.
I was interested that you have placed the horizon according to the golden ratio (which I see in photoshop) and to my eyes this works far better than the rule-of-thirds with which I normally start. Was this a deliberate strategy or simply the result of a good eye?   Posted: 11/03/2024 14:22:39

This is a lovely still picture. The boats on the right balance the building on the left and, the key to it all, the three black posts take the eye on into the mist in the distance. A very good composition.   Posted: 11/11/2024 10:08:24

Gary, this is a lovely moody image and perfect for a mono image. I think you have handled the conditions very well. I might consider a tiny crop off the top which would no affect the horizon line too much.   Posted: 11/12/2024 16:47:46

Hi Gary,
This is a very nice moody and peaceful image. Great perspective leading into the foggy mist. Nicely composed. Good story. Well done.   Posted: 11/12/2024 17:59:12

Gary--To me this is a picture of water and the boats and buildings are the frame. I like the texture of the water and the softness of the fog. The dark building on the left seems heavy and I would crop up it up to the railing and a little from the top and bottom. Just an idea.   Posted: 11/16/2024 20:08:51

A nice moody foggy image which as you say probably required very little to make into monochrome. You have a nice leading line in the middle but it leads me out of the image and into no where.   Posted: 11/17/2024 23:51:59
