About the Image(s)
This is another image from a photoshoot I was asked to do at my local barbershop this year. I particularly liked this image of one of the barbers for his strong face and beard. Coping with his white shirt proved challenging but I hope has worked. Taken with a Fuji XT3 1/125 @f6.4 ISO640 and with flash.

I think the shirt is great. It avoids blow-outs, it has fine texture visible in the cloth, the creases and shadows are well defined, even interesting. So no problems there :-)
I do not think, however, that the face/skin is nearly as interesting: a little pallid; perhaps the lighting is not kind - and the picture behind the model's right side is for me a little distracting. I love your portraits but not this one.

Good portrait of this man, good work on the white shirt, but I think this would have more impact if he were holding an instrument of his trade?   Posted: 11/04/2024 04:31:24

Nice portrait, Peter. Well exposed. You caught the twinkle in his eyes. His tattoo and bracelet adds to his character. Sharp details. Well done.   Posted: 11/10/2024 22:26:54

This one doesn't quite make it. The background is distracting and the lighting flat. Also, the subject looks very combative. Maybe if the flash had been off to one side, on a stand and a clearer background found, it may have been more engaging.   Posted: 11/11/2024 10:05:07

Peter--I don't know if it's the background, the expression, the crossed arms or what, this doesn't work for me. There's nothing about subject the conveys "barber"; in fact I would likely have guessed tatooist, but maybe that's just me. For some reason the framed picture in the background seems distracting.   Posted: 11/16/2024 19:29:46

I can't think of much else that has not already been said. The picture in the background is distracting.   Posted: 11/17/2024 23:16:14
