About the Image(s)
I was on a recent visit to a wetlands area in Melbourne, Australia and noticed many of these birds flying by – flocks of them. Most were a distance away but a couple decided to fly overhead and this is one of them.
Photo taken with Nikon D7100, 1/2500 F10, 500mm, ISO1100 and image processed in Lightroom – not that I did a lot to it. A bit of sharpening and smoothing, and highlights and vibrance adjusted a bit.

Hi Kathie, great color, sharpness and definition in the blacks and highlights. Other than maybe a little smaller crop, nothing else to add except that it's a great looking image!   Posted: 09/05/2023 09:43:18
Thank you Jim :-)   Posted: 09/05/2023 16:59:00
Kathie, I have never heard of a Straw-necked Ibis - what a cool bird! You captured the iridescence (my favourite feature of these birds) in it's neck and beak beautifully! We have the White-faced Ibis here in Sacramento. May I ask which wetlands you spotted it at as I went to a few nature areas around Ferny Creek. A little tighter crop might be nice.   Posted: 09/05/2023 12:42:55
Thank you Kathleen. So you know the Dandenong Ranges? That's where I live.
This image was taken at the Western Treatment Plant which is about 100km west, over the other side of Melbourne, at Point Wilson, near Werribee.   Posted: 09/05/2023 17:00:00

Thanks for sharing. Yes, I'm familiar with the Dandenong Ranges ~ beautiful area, and I've been to the Werribee Open Range Zoo!   Posted: 09/05/2023 20:09:21
Hi Kathie, you have managed a top photo of the Straw Necked Ibis in flight. Very good sharpness, properly exposed and with highlight in the eye. Well done.   Posted: 09/07/2023 00:43:05
Thank you Hans, much appreciated.   Posted: 09/07/2023 01:37:52
Thanks Roy. We have the Australian Ibis which is probably closer to yours although they have a black beak, head, feet and tail.
It's interesting to see the different variations from around the world.   Posted: 09/07/2023 16:12:14

Thanks Tom, yes the crop works. Glad you like the shot.   Posted: 09/19/2023 19:38:49
Beautiful bird - I have to laugh because we have the white ones and we also have too many! They fly in huge flocks, but when they are breeding, their color is red and so striking. I agree that this needs to be cropped which shows off more detail in the bird - just leave him enough room to fly. Great shot!   Posted: 09/24/2023 16:43:39
Thanks Julia, glad you like it. And yes, so many variations of this bird type around the world it seems.   Posted: 09/24/2023 16:56:57
