About the Image(s)
I went to Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge on my way to vacation in North Carolina's Outer Banks. I owe thanks to Sylvia who pointed me in the right direction to find barred owls. I watched as they flew back and forth, listened as they talked to each other and took a lot of photos. I took one last drive before heading out and saw this barred owl in a tree right next to the road. I took this photo (and lots more) right from my car. Thank you so much Sylvia! I was able to cross this one off my bucket list!

I thought a little darkling, reduced texture/clarity of the background might bring more focus to the bird. I also ran it through Topez to sharpen slightly and added a little more exposure to the whites in its eyes. Owls are hard to photograph, since they are adapted to blend in with their habitat! Nice catch.   Posted: 09/05/2023 14:22:45

Love the color and detail in the feathers. The birds posture and position of its head is also great. I'm always watching for owls when I'm out, but have never been lucky enough to see one. Along with Roys suggestion, I might also add a little more space above the owls head to match the space at the bottom. Great shot!   Posted: 09/05/2023 17:52:52

Hi Julia, congratulations, a great photo of the Barred Owl, with beautiful details in the plumage. You show us that the car is a good camouflage for bird photography.   Posted: 09/07/2023 00:38:25

Thank you. Yes, I feel that the background was a little too busy and distracting - I like this better.   Posted: 09/24/2023 16:30:04
