August 2026 - Beeeater Copulation

About the Image(s)

This year is not a mayor year in nature photography. I had to search my archive for some pictures. I have found this beeeater pair, which I have taken in June 2024 in Eastern Germany. Once the faucet has convinced the hen, there is action ahead.

Canon R5 with Canon 400mm 2.8 and 2*extender; Ap. 6.3; ISO 5000 and shutter speed 1/8000.

Strengths: Peak behavioral moment, outstanding feather detail, beautiful separation from the background, raised wing creates a dynamic triangular composition, the perch enters from the lower left and leads the eye naturally into the birds, incredible color in the subjects and a beautiful and soft background.

Weaknesses: None!

This to my eye is a WOW image!

Peter, I did not think anyone would beat the color of the Aracari photo that I submitted this month. You certainly did and what a wonderful photograph. I agree with all of Butch's great comments. One very minor thing, I was distracte by the small yellow buds on the end of the branch, only becouse I did not initially know what they were.   Posted: 08/10/2026 19:21:40

Congratulations Peter for this picture! A while ago I had seen this incredible photo in a competition, and I wondered when you would show it to us. The complementary colors, the movement the male bird is making with its beak, and the blurred background make this image great.   Posted: 08/14/2026 14:59:05

This image has great action, clean background, and strong impact. The only thing I would have done differently is to have the birds a little more right in the frame. Bravo...   Posted: 08/23/2026 19:46:25
