July 2026 - Gathering Wagtail

About the Image(s)

Taken somewhere in Eastern Germany in 2023. Watching Beeeaters, this wagtail showed them how to pick up more greater insects.

Nice action photograph, it has quite a mouthful. I might have cropped a little off the right and left but still leaving more on the right side. Also there are some lines below the eye, is this natural? I sometimes get these when I over sharpen.   Posted: 07/03/2026 19:34:31

Roy, thanks for your comment. The lines under the eye is one wing of the dragonfly.   Posted: 07/04/2026 01:29:46

Peter - Impact, Visual Interest, Story, Simplicity, Tack Sharp and Detailed - OUTSTANDING!

See my VF - I think the background detracts from the absolutely superb subject capture. I desaturated the yellow to minus 87 and the green to minus 63, then increased the Luminance of the yellow to plus 28 and the green to plus 19 - Kudos, I really enjoyed this image   Posted: 07/03/2026 21:35:09

This is a perfect photo of the wagtail with its prey. For me, only the limited amount of space above the head is distracting.   Posted: 07/08/2026 14:48:42

The thing that got me into photography was photographing dragonfly and damselflies so this image hurts my heart a little bit... I would like to see the birds eye a little more in focus; probably stopping down the aperture a little would have let everything be in the zone of focus. No other complaints though, that's a great image!   Posted: 07/10/2026 12:43:16
