About the Image(s)
f/9 1/1000 iso 12800 The mother Pallas's cat had killed a starling and brought it for her kittens to eat. In a brief moment when the kittens retreated inside the den, the presumed mate of the sparrow came to try to get it up. We were all in tears, but I don't know if the photo is strong enough to portray the story.

Deborah,
This is an emotional moment to witness, and the setting gives it authenticity. The challenge is the emotional story you describe isn't conveyed in the frame, And without that context, it reads more as a static scene than a narrative moment.
Moments like this are almost impossible to capture. But what elevates them from interesting to impactful is usually a clear gesture, strong eye detail or posture or clear subject isolation. I think the image needed one more visual cue to carry it on its own.

Thanks, Butch, I appreciate the honesty.   Posted: 04/01/2026 16:24:16
I think this image has a strong emotional impact, especially with the author statement giving the background. The parent seems to have some motion blur that does hurt the image technically, and I wonder if a tighter crop might be more impactful?   Posted: 04/02/2026 12:12:45
