The Under-appreciated Turkey Vulture by Kathleen Sewell

October 2025 - The Under-appreciated Turkey Vulture

About the Image(s)

It’s rare I’ve had a turkey vulture fly by like this. I was happy to catch it! :). I do think these fine birds are under-appreciated, as they have a vital role in keeping the environment clean.

Focal Length - 400mm
Aperture - f/9
SS - 1/1600
ISO - 500mm

I raised the exposure, white, and black global settings. I added a little texture and denoise

Well Roy, your vulture definitely gets first place for most graphic! :)   Posted: 10/11/2025 22:34:58

Excellent capture and love the perspective, which to my eye is worth points in a competition. I thought the background a touch busy so I darkened it and reduced the contrast on the subject itself very slightly and increased the exposure - LMK what you think.   Posted: 10/10/2025 20:34:00

I appreciated that you saw value in the perspective as that's what I liked about the image. I looked at darkening the background but wasn't sure how to go about it. The background in your version is less distracting.   Posted: 10/11/2025 22:37:22

Good capture, good perspective, and the wings are in excellent position. For darkening the background the simplest way in Lightroom is in the Tools menu to select make a new mask, then selecting the backround .   Posted: 10/12/2025 08:25:34
