July 2025 - Skimmer with Dinner

I just returned from a trip to a beach in North Carolina where the skimmers and terns nest and raise their babies. The skimmers were late this year and are still sitting on nests. I was able to get them fishing and bringing in dinner to their mates. I have just started going through my images, but here is one of a skimmer with dinner in his mouth

Excellent photograph of a Black Skimmer. It is hard to get their dark eyes which you accomplished well. It also adds a lot to get the fish eye. On my monoter, the whites look a little blown out. I sumetimes lower the high lights or use a highly feathered brush to mask the white areas, then slightly lower the exposure. Great job. Posted: 07/09/2025 13:21:01

Great capture of the subject, sharp, clear, story, detail - with that said, there are a lot of minor distractions in both the foreground and background - but your execution of the subject is just outstanding. Posted: 07/09/2025 22:15:19

Julia ~ firstly I love the title! Your image is sharp, vibrant, with both the skimmer and fish perfectly posed. Excellent!! I would probably remove the greenery at the top of the skimmer's head. Posted: 07/12/2025 21:45:18
