About the Image(s)
This male American Kestrel is bringing a grasshopper to one of the fledglings. I got this photo on June 19 at about 6:30 in the evening. I have taken pictures of kestrels at different times of the day and have found the soft lower angle of light at the end of the day brings out the best colors, especially around their eyes. Shot on a monopod, 840mm at 1/2500, f//9, ISO 1600.

Agree with Roy - remove the second branch, it draws the eye away from your excellent capture   Posted: 07/09/2025 19:19:50
Thank you for the advice. I don't know how to use photoshop but will try to do it in Lightroom.   Posted: 07/09/2025 21:58:53
You beautifully captured this kestrel's successful catch. :)
I agree that the late afternoon light brings out its vibrant colors, especially highlighting the kestrel's face. I use Lightroom which also should easily remove the branch, using spot removal. It even has an AI choice although probably not needed in this situation.   Posted: 07/12/2025 21:27:59

Beautiful capture - nice and sharp and tells a story. I agree with removing the 2nd branch. Very nice!   Posted: 07/13/2025 00:45:17
Thank you for telling me to remove the second branch. It turned out to be a simple fix in Lightroom, but until you said it, I hadn't even looked at the photo with the thought about distractions. It really improved the image and I will have a more critical eye on other images in the future.   Posted: 07/13/2025 13:32:49
