Roy, what a presentation! These two eyes of the egret and the fish - wonderful. The fish perfectly placed! I like the background too, you can see the water even though it is not sharp! Bravo!   Posted: 05/03/2025 23:40:11

Roy, this is a special capture, you should be proud. Having said that, I've always prefered to see the entire subject when photographing birds, if you have the RAW and you did capture the entire bird, that's the one I would present - still, this is a wow image   Posted: 05/07/2025 13:53:00

Butch, your point is well taken, however I feel the uniqueness of the photograph is the fish and its detail is lost when framing the whole bird. Here is the full bird cropped for comparison.   Posted: 05/07/2025 15:09:29

Roy, you're the artist, but I don't think you lose anything, in fact, I believe your full frame version would score much higher in a photo competition - in this version, in addition to the unique capture, the subject's stance displays an "attitude" - I really feel there's much more power in the image featuring the entire subject - but hey, that's just one man's opinion.   Posted: 05/07/2025 15:16:43

Thats what I like about this forum, you get lots of excellent feedback! My experience with photo contests is that I mignt feel I have a "competive" photo, but to identify what will be a "winner" will be up to the subjective perpective eyes of the judges. I hope other members of this form will give their opinions of which crop they prefer.   Posted: 05/07/2025 15:30:45

Well 'I' like it cropped vertical and closer to showcase that perfectly intact fish with matching eyes!! :) Awesome catch!   Posted: 05/08/2025 22:36:15

Excellent capture Roy. However, I think that is too little space in the right side. Therefore I like Kathleen's crop the best. On the subject of personal preference: I noticed that you like making narrow cropping, and that's not every jury cup of tea.   Posted: 05/11/2025 09:00:53
