The Blue Heron caught this Blowfish which quickly inflated. Normally the Heron flips its prey so that it is head first to be swallowed. The Heron tried for over 1/2 hour to find a way to swallow this fish and finally gave up. I have seen herons pierce blowfish to deflate them, but this guy did not know this trick.

Great story and outstanding detail - the water droplet adds immensely to this image Roy - just terrific.

I agree with Christ that also catching the eye and mouth of the blowfish really makes the action come alive! I might add a little brightness to the water. Super unique and fun image!! Posted: 04/15/2025 19:39:39
