Purple Gallinule by Roy Lockwood

February 2025 - Purple Gallinule

About the Image(s)

The Purple Gallinule is one of the most colorful birds in Florida. I was able to capture this shot as the bird flew from one Lily pad cluster to another. The large yellow feet allowed it to land on the Lily Pad and stay afloat.

What a photo! Shot the the right time, Roy. Sharp enough to see the water dropping. And the eye between the feathers - perfect. I only have one suggestion to get rid of the green below. I would fill it up with the water structure around.   Posted: 02/02/2025 01:52:16

Terrific action shot and love how the viewer can see the subject's eye between feathers. In my VF I removed the bright spot in the lower left and removed the foliage in the lower right in PS, then I opened the shadows as much as I could on all the black feathers. Great shot.   Posted: 02/06/2025 16:34:28

Fantastic shot with the bird looking through the primaries. Without the green leaf the picture looks better, but for a competition we can't remove parts of the image. For a print you could make these modifications.   Posted: 02/09/2025 10:04:17

Of course, the eye and catchlight between feathers is stunning! The sharp yellow talons are impressive! I also like the lower foliage removed as it looks more free flying. Love it!   Posted: 02/10/2025 16:55:22
