Do You Want to Dance? by Kathleen Sewell

January 2025 - Do You Want to Dance?

About the Image(s)

I was at Frog Lake, a nearby pond. I waited patiently until both cormorants spread their wings and gazed into each other's eyes. The moment was brief but endearing. :)

Aperture ~ f-7.1
Shutter Speed ~ 1/1000
ISO ~ 500
Focal length ~ 400mm

I used some spot removal in the water, added a small amount of vibrance and texture, and lowered the highlights. I did darken the background a little, but not sure if darkening provides ideal contrast with dark birds? I used a small amount of noise reduction.

Great catch! In my experience, most of the time, there is only seconds to get the shot. I did darken the background a little more, added a tiny bit of contrast and removed the green line on the bottom right (Photoshop AI generative fill). This Photoshop tool works great although I realize that its use is sometimes restricted. I do not use it to add things that are not already in the photo, nor alter the basic composition.   Posted: 01/04/2025 16:26:47

Thanks for removing the green line ~ much better without it!   Posted: 01/10/2025 22:49:29

Anything I could say about this image would be nit picking, just an outstanding capture although I do agree with Roy re: the green line below the reflection of the cormorant on the right - a winner in any photo club competition - just boffo!   Posted: 01/07/2025 16:04:01

A good composition Kathleen with the two cormorants, the interaction of the birds, the mirrors. In the crop tool I would check the water level, it sames not just.   Posted: 01/07/2025 17:07:27

It looks like you may be right. I will check it in Lightroom. Thank you!   Posted: 01/10/2025 22:58:14

Very expressive picture, Kathleen. Sharp, colorful and a good story. Well placed, with mirror and a fine background. If you don't want to place it in some exhibitions under Nature, I also would suggest to remove the piece of grass in the front. Good job!   Posted: 01/09/2025 00:09:17
