Mating Kestrels by Dr Ernoe Barsi

December 2024 - Mating Kestrels

About the Image(s)

The birds are common kestrels. I made this photo from a hide with one way glass, near the nextbox. The camera body was Canon R6, lens Canon RF 100-500/f:5,6-7,1 IS USM.

ISO 1600, f/6,3, 451 mm, T:1/250 sec. In Lightroom I made the following
changes: cropping, temperature, exposure correction, black- white clipping, texture correction, luminance noise reduction, in Photoshop; image resizing, levels correction, in Topaz Sharpen AI, I corrected the sharpness.

Great Photograph, timing is everything! I did darken the branches a little and around the edges of the pic, with the intent to draw more focus on the subjects.   Posted: 12/09/2024 19:05:41

Wow!! You captured a beautiful intimate moment between kestrels. Their close up and personal expressions tell the story! I love it as is. It seems the one-way glass hide served you well.   Posted: 12/12/2024 00:47:13

Dr. Barsi, this is an outstanding image. You caught it at the peak of action. The clarity and sharpness couldn't be any better. Very surprised that at 1/250th of a second that it is so very sharp. Very non distracting background. One element in the frame I do find distracting is that vertical branch. I found my eye going back and forth from the Kestrels to the branch. Hope you don't mind but I removed it. What do you think?   Posted: 12/12/2024 01:14:19
