About the Image(s)

This image is of City Hall in San Francisco. It was taken on a cold morning where the sky was overcast. The image was taken with my Canon 6d at f/8, ISO 100 and 1/250 secs. I used a tripod to take this image to ensure the image is sharp. I converted the image to Mono as the sky was pretty bland. Being a busy street, I knew there would be cars coming in, so I waited to take the image when there was the least number of moving cars. However, as you see there are cars parked on the street which I cannot do anything about it. I would like to know your comments on the image and whether I can improve this image to make it better."

Hi Viren. I think this is well composed and shot. I don't see much in terms of technical improvements to be made. You have pretty well nailed the symmetry in this one, which I find not easy to do in architectural shots such as this.

I wonder what look or feeling you were going for in the shot? To me it is a little dark, which gives it a bit of a gloomy feel. I think the lack of more active human element (e.g., a bustle of people moving about) adds to that feel. I know you mentioned the parked cars, but I think without them that the image would feel somewhat clinical. I guess at the end of the day I am saying I currently don't get a strong emotional feel from the image. I think that could be changed but you would have to decide what direction to take things.   Posted: 09/17/2023 08:23:49

Hi Viren, I agree with most of Robert's comments. I'm not sure the cars add anything to me. I do have a couple of technical considerations that might make this stark image stand out more. I used the masks in LRCC to isolate the sky (Dehaze) center of the building which I wanted to be the subject(?) (Contrast) and background, which is the remainder and (Lighten.) Just thoughts to try to add some pop.   Posted: 09/18/2023 10:57:12

Hi Viren, I echo previous comments. I also like the symmetry. And technically it seems like a nice sharp image. But I also would like a bit more of the narrative or emotion you are trying to convey. Bob's edit does add some drama to it.   Posted: 09/18/2023 13:59:41

Hi Viren,
Thank you for sharing.
I think it is well captured without distortion with nice details. Also I like the tone of the image. It is really personal taste though.
I like to have cars in the frame. Even, I like them to move. Then it might create another story.   Posted: 09/20/2023 21:34:31
