This month’s photograph is from the city of Mafra in Portugal.
The image is of the interior of the Roman Catholic Basilica which is located in the central heart of one of the Largest Palaces in the World. The central nave is 63 meters long and only 16.5 meters wide. My wide angle lens exaggerates the depth. This specific photo was recorded from an external walkway while looking through a glass window, fortunately aligned with the axis of symmetry. As public access and tripods were not allowed, all I had to do was to hold my camera exactly level, front to back, and side to side. I used my lens hood to stabilize the camera gently pressed against the glass.

You are correct. I think there is also some reflective glare near the top of the image as well. I was able to capture the scene that my eyes observed, glare and all. Placing my lens hood against the glass allowed me to better steady my camera. Posted: 04/03/2026 02:49:30
The image draws the viewer into the alter at the end. Almost religious in nature.

If this was a song, it would have to be an ode of joy! How amazing that the glass was so perfectly aligned. On close examination I saw the lower reflections but still don't see any at top. Just a quick look at Mafra looked like a baroque fantasy in brick. Nicely done, Rick. Black and white really makes it. Posted: 04/03/2026 21:22:25
