Hi Bruce - thanks for sharing this image. I can almost imagine the thoughts going through the general's head, stood above everything in a reflective moment. The timing with sunset makes this even stronger. So I think this image conveys great story and emotion.

Technically, a couple of comments that you might consider. First, the rock at the bottom and the lower portion of the general (e.g., boots) is a bit out of focus; it's clearly a depth of focus issue even at f11. In this particular case, I think I'd rather see that sharp and the background a little soft as needed. Or if you were on a tripod you could focus stack to get everything sharp (but some post processing work required). Second, I think it's not optimal to have the General on the left side looking left out of the frame. I have no idea the situation where you were standing, but maybe you could have composed with the general on the right side of the frame, so he'd be looking more into the frame, and maybe even out towards the sunset.

Again, I think your image conveys to me a definite message or story, which is not an easy thing in landscapes. Beautiful sunset and horizon as well.
