Mccall i liked the branch but i flipped it and bumped up the shadows

Hi carol. I absolutely get why you made the image. A couple of refinements that i may suggest.
The overall exposure seems a bit too bright. That can be fixed in in post processing. The second thing is the branch peaking in the top left corner distract the viewer a bit in the composition. Im not sure what the grey out of focus part int he bottom right is. Both these items carry visual weight in the frame as its on the edge. Lastly compositionally I would have personally like to see more of the landscape beyond the tree. Maybe a perspective a little more from the left would have opened up the background to make a stronger composition Posted: 08/11/2026 19:08:15

Carol, I agree with you that the branch makes an interesting subject. I think your focus is good giving a nice sharp image and you have good depth of field.
I do pretty much agree with Francois's comments. For me, my eye keeps wanting to go to the scene beyond the tree. I like the diagonal that the trunk cuts across the frame but then it cuts off the top so I can't see where it is taking me. Posted: 08/12/2026 16:19:35

HI Carol, in addition to the others comments, I think cropping in a bit might get closer to what Francois is mentioning. When I zoomed in and cropped out the lens hood, that helped frame it a bit more. Posted: 08/21/2026 20:57:02
