About the Image(s)

Camera Nikon P1000 f8 ISO 200 1/125

My settings were this way as the camera is great for distance but not so much on fast shutter speeds. So my choice was to try and get a little bit of the smoothness and no stop action.

Heading home from the PSA festival this past September we stopped at Thor’s Well close to high time this time. As everyone who has visited Thor’s Well, I wanted the picture of the water draining down the hole. This day, however, had its challenges and I was dodging the rain. Shot from the overlook using my chair.

In ACR I opened the shadows and lowered the highlights. I used the denoise and sharpen here. I adjusted the exposure. Then I brought it into PS I brightened the midtones and darken both the highlights and shadows. I upped some of the highlights. I also brought up the yellow in the rocks. I then cropped the image.

I love the water. You definitely brought it to life. I like how your crop brought the focus to the water dropping into the well.   Posted: 12/06/2025 13:03:23

Hi darcy. I think what you wanted to do do was 100% the right thinking. I would have loved to see an even lower shutter speed. Be careful with your exposure on the whites and highlights you can bring that down a bit in Post.   Posted: 12/11/2025 19:12:39
