This was the last sunset at Custer State Park from our vacation in 2024. I was just working the clouds and wanted to bring a little bit of color into the image. I am approaching the Raw images as negatives.
In ACR I cropped the image. I then upped the exposure, contrast, shadows, and whites. I lowered the highlights and blacks. From here I masked the sky. I lowered the highlights and upped the shadows.I used point color to bring out the purple and orange of the sunset. I duplicated and inverted the mask. I lowered the exposure , highlights and contrast. Into Photoshop where I dodged the ground and some of the trees. My usual run through Topaz.

Lovely sunset. And the stormy clouds add drama. The foreground might seem lifeless but it provides and interesting contrast with it simplicity and tranquillity. In treating image. You can try and improve it of you find a composition with a focal point int he foreground. But thats for another day   Posted: 03/11/2025 11:58:08

Thank you. I will have to say I think when I was taking this image it was the sky that captured my vision.   Posted: 03/11/2025 12:19:18

I think you did a good job processing the original image, bringing out the shadows and enhancing the sky. I like how you composed the trees with the glowing sky in the middle.   Posted: 03/17/2025 17:22:46

This is a nice relaxing image for me and I like what you did with the post processing. It's a comfortable simple image and I think your composition is good with the placement of the two trees to frame the sky with the fading color. Technically I think you did a good job with exposure, focus and depth of field.
I do agree with Francois that having something in the image to serve as a primary item of interest would be a good addition.   Posted: 03/21/2025 19:19:44
