I went with our camera club to a fall colors outing. The place is very handicapped friendly. I also had never tried to do a sunburst until today. The question I have is I submitted this to a camera club competition and it got a very low score. I want to know what you think of this image?

Post. In ACR I upped the exposure, contrast, and shadows. lowered highlights and blacks. Dehazed and added a vignette. I also converted this to black and white. I then brought this into Photoshop and cropped the image.

Since it was a "fall colors" outing, did they ding you for the B/W conversion?   Posted: 01/06/2025 18:03:26

He dinged the sunburst said he could not pull his eyes from it. He mentioned it would have worked with no sunburst.   Posted: 01/20/2025 01:47:44

Hi Darcy, this image reminds me of infrared image for some reason. The processing of the leaves reminds me of that for sure. B&W processing is so hard (IMO) and I never know what way to go - do I want it as softer contrast or high contrast?

This feels like a high contrast image, with not a lot of mid-tones, perhaps finding more a balance might have worked with the club? Did they provide any feedback to you?

I like how you captured the multiple sun stars from the leaves. I also like your original and how the tree line slops down further to the right.   Posted: 01/18/2025 19:15:15

Thank you I was trying to do high key. I thought the original was too yellow.   Posted: 01/20/2025 01:49:15
