This was from Fairbanks in 2022 late August. We got lucky for a night. It rained 15 of the 17 nights we were there. I have always been intrigued by the night sky. I fell in love with the aurora when I saw them in 2019. It is really a surreal feeling when they are dancing across the sky.
Post in ACR I selected the sky where I brought down the contrast and highlights and just upped the blacks a smidge. I emphasized the purple by using point color upped hue saturation and luminance.
I brought it into Photoshop and ran it through Topaz AI. I adjusted the highlights a little more mainly the greens.

If someone were to write an article regarding the Aurora, this is the photo they would use to explain it! There are several elements to this photo that make it so good...the purple/green sky...the bright stars shining through the clouds! Well done.   Posted: 12/10/2024 15:59:58

Having never seen the Aurora I am amazed at how bright it is. It must be incredible to watch as it moves around. This is a great picture, Darcy. The stars, clouds and Aurora are perfectly balanced.   Posted: 12/14/2024 03:14:00

The auroras are something that should be seen at least once in your life. Sometimes if you listen quietly you can hear them crinkle.   Posted: 12/17/2024 02:34:03

Like Neil, I am impressed with this shot as I have never seen the Aurora. That fact creates for me a high level of interest in the photo; good job. I like the composition and I think the silhouette of the trees against the lighted provide a great sense of reference. I also think including the stars in the sky above the Aurora is a positive. Nice shot, I really like it as I do agree with Neil.   Posted: 12/18/2024 17:05:27
