About the Image(s)
My wife and I took another get-away trip to the east of the Cascades. This photo is from Smith Rock State Park just north of Redmond OR. (Our daughter lives in Boise and as we drive across Oregon we are always taken back by how different the state is from the coast, I-5 corridor and west of the Cascades). It's unique in that the park is surrounded by relatively flat farm land and this canyon with the rock formations just sits in the middle. It was a pretty overcast day so I didn't have to deal with shadows and I did have a low light situation. This shot is from the parking area of their visitor center, but we didn't hike down to the bottom of the canyon - that's for my next visit.
I took the shot with my Canon R; rf24-105 lens at 24mm; aperture f/14; shutter 1/125; ISO 400. As you can see in post I increased the exposure a good bit, did a lot of haze removal, increased the overall contrast and worked on the color contrast to make the redish brown stand out more.

The original needed a lot of work and yet the image looks natural.   Posted: 11/11/2024 22:02:27
To me, the color looks a bit too yellow and the sky looks over processed a bit in the center of the frame, there also seems to be some ghosting at the skyline.
Hope you don't mind, I took a crack at processing this, then had fun warping it a bit as I didn't like how the right side of the river started higher, then dipped down, it looked a bit out of balance (to me at least). I also took out the two tree stubs that were on the right. This was a total quick, fun edit on my part, just wanted to see how it might look doing this.   Posted: 11/17/2024 22:51:28
p.s. This is the most popular cliff climbing location in Oregon.   Posted: 11/18/2024 02:27:21
