About the Image(s)

A lucky morning photo for me at the inlet to catch the osprey with its breakfast. Not knowing all my Florida fish I was told it's a catfish. I am still after the prize photo when the osprey is just coming out of the water with its catch, but for now I am happy with this shot. Canon 80D, Canon 100-400mm Lens at 220mm. Settings f9, 1/2000 sec, ISO 640

The wings stretched out to their max and the elegant tip feathers displayed make for a very nice action shot. The underside of the wings are illuminated quite well. The subtle lighting and coloring of the cloud background adds overall. I would think that you could crop in, especially from the bottom, in order to reduce the negative space.   Posted: 07/19/2024 13:45:18

Thank you Jerry for your comments. I think you are right with it needing it to be cropped. Will do.   Posted: 07/28/2024 00:46:20

Nice catch for both you and the Osprey! Great pose, nice placement in the frame, and nice light and color overall. I tend to like space so like this as is, but I would also play with a crop as Jerry suggested- just not too tight so it has space to be flying in.
I think we'd all like to capture that moment of an Osprey fishing! Somehow it always seems to happen in a spot that the bird's obscured, or just too far away. Not to mention just predicting it and being ready...   Posted: 07/27/2024 19:33:13

Thank you Cindy. Sometimes I even surprise myself. Yes a little off the bottom is needed. You are so right, I have way too many crazy shots trying for perfection.

What a great capture Marge: well done. I like your development of it and would also suggest you play with removing a bit of the sky to the left and a bit more at the bottom. This would make the bird bigger in the frame.   Posted: 07/27/2024 22:00:37

Thank you Adrian. This shot is right out of my camera. I only resized it to be able to send it. I was actually surprised to see the color of the cloud behind him so perfectly. I do agree that it needs to be cropped a bit and on the left and below is exactly what I was thinking.   Posted: 07/28/2024 00:57:51

As the others said, it was a great capture looking up and getting the detail. Perhaps bit more of a crop from bottom would help the dramatics of the photo. Good luck with getting a photo of them exploring from water with a fish. It really takes being in the right place/time with camera ready.   Posted: 07/28/2024 14:03:23

Steve I have an enormous pile of trash from trying to get that shot but I am not ready to give up either. Thank you for your comments.
