About the Image(s)

About: While this species is found in my area, it is not common in the habitat of my local park. So when this one showed up I followed it around as it sallied out from the tree tops catching bugs. Mostly it was pretty obscured by leaves, but it did give me one fairly open pose, in the deep shade of course. Nikon Z8, 500mm, 1/1600, f/5.6, ISO2500. Processing: Crop, adjusted white balance (I shoot in fixed sunny), increased exposure and brightness, Topaz denoise.

Hey Cindy, very nice image Which is well exposed, sharp, nice pose and pleasant colors. I might suggest bringing out the catch light in the eye as a slight improvement Would make a nice wall hanger in any home. Bruce

Thanks Bruce- the catchlight is something I should pay more attention to!   Posted: 07/05/2024 00:51:25

Great picture! The pale green coloring adds a lot, as well as the delicate leaf pattern that forms as a frame for the bird. Nice and sharp, and the empty space directly behind the bird sets it apart really well. Great soft box lighting.
Perhaps work on eliminating the branch or twig lower right?   Posted: 07/19/2024 14:09:32

This is a beautiful image Cindy! It has a lovely soft feel to it, while the fly catcher has much detail and is v sharp. I like your crop, but a bit more off the bottom may also work.   Posted: 07/27/2024 22:12:25

Lucky you to find this cute little drifter. Its so soft yet so sharp, well done. And a good job on editing. I have been playing with lots of my little bird photos by making them squares so I had to play with yours too.   Posted: 07/28/2024 00:17:55

Thanks Marge, I also like square crops. I might not go quite this tight but I like the idea a lot.   Posted: 07/28/2024 00:31:01

I agree its too tight now that I look again. I was concentrating of trying to get rid of as much yellow as possible.   Posted: 07/28/2024 02:53:54
