August 2026 - Yellow Headed Blackbird

Taken at Market lake Wildlife Area, Roberts, Idaho. These birds are common in this area during the summer.. It Is one of my favorite places to visit since our move to Idaho Falls, Idaho where I grew up many years ago.
Canon 1DX/ Canon 800 5.6 F 5.6/ 1/640/ ISO 3200.

Talk about angry bird! Great aggressive and defensive pose, with the outstretched wings sending out a warning. To some extent the face, but mainly the body, could use some more dodging in order to bring out detail. Possibly crop in more from both the left and right. Well captured background. The bird is sitting with a beautiful pose. The timing exposure is very interesting. I like the image and thanks for sharing.

Love the pose with the outstretched wings and tail. Nice eye contact too. The yellow really pops against the muted background color.
I would crop this from the left, removing most/all of the larger bright cattails.

Bruce - you've caught this colourful chap in a very interesting pose - Jerry says it an aggressive stance and I simply do not know enough about their behaviour to query this - but either way, it certainly catches the eye separately than just it's super colours. I agree with Cindy that cropping from the left would put him left of centre - thus helping the balance of your image. Lovely. Posted: 08/18/2026 13:36:49

It's a beautiful bird with a very striking yellow colour. I love your capture, which freezes the bird in a lovely pose with its wings open. The blurred background makes the bird stand out beautifully without any distractions.
There is also great detail in the feathers and excellent eye contact. I agree with the cropping suggestions too.

Bruce, YES a neat capture of something about to happen with this beautiful bird. I might be tempted to crop a bit from the left as it looks it is about to go bottom right.
