Date of exposure: 11.01.2023 , 12:30. Subject: HALIASTUR INDUS (Brahminy Kite), ODISHA, INDIA. CAMERA: NIKON D7200, LENS 100-400 TELE ZOON TAMRON. Lens: f-stop f/13 , Focal Length: 400 mm (35MM focal length 600 mm), exposure time 1/1000 sec, 800 ISO, pattern metering, manual mode.
LOCATION: The Rushikulya River is one of the major rivers in Odisha, INDIA and covers the entire catchment area in the districts of Kandhamal and Ganjam of Odisha. We found this beautiful Brahminy Kite bathing in the river. EDITING: I used PS CS 2025 to edit the frame, by a desktop computer. I used adobe camera raw 18 plug-in to enhance clarity, shadow details, brightness and exposure. I also used Topaz software to reduce digital noise and to sharpen details.

The sandbar he has landed on works almost as a display platform; the image then transitions to a background that is blurred nicely and serves to set the kite off from its surroundings. The colors are well rendered, with a beautiful golden brown plumage. However, perhaps you should crop in quite a bit more so that the subject plays a more prominent part of the composition.   Posted: 07/08/2026 20:02:18

Sunat - you timed this shot perfectly (showing clear intensity in looking at something to our right and your PP has really brought out its colours and feather detail. Background is nicely blurred. All good.

Then it comes to final crop. I think most months, you receive suggestions to crop more - and this one will attract similar comments I think. Top and bottom are (for me) fine - but with the story being his look to the right, there is little need for much left of him (and the yellow foliage near the water here detracts) - then one's left with deciding how much one wants ahead of him to help the story.
