About the Image(s)
For this month’s image, I have chosen this shot of a gannet that I took last September during one of the outings to observe seabirds as they migrate across the Cantabrian Sea. In the edit, I cropped the image and slightly enhanced the bird’s colours. Exif data: Shutter speed: 1/1600 sec; Aperture: f/7.1; ISO: 1600; Shot with a Canon R5 Mark II and a 200??“800 mm lens at 200 mm.

Maria, gannets are such fun birds to photograph and you have caught this chap looking at you in a very quirky way. He's just been in the water too, with water droplets very clear against his chest and wing.
Very good detail on the bird. Well done. Pure white sky adds a minimalist feel. Love it!   Posted: 12/13/2025 11:41:06

Maria,
You did a great job on the exposure of this to retain all the feather detail so well. Not easy on a white bird in any situation. The pose is really nice with the fanned out tail and outstretched wings. The way it's looking right at you with the trail of water coming off the bill takes this to another level of interest and engagement. Nice choice on the crop as well, to my eye. Well done- you had some good success on that trip!   Posted: 12/13/2025 22:08:20

As noted, the bird looking directly at you really makes this shot. Sharpened well. Perhaps brighten the eyes a bit? Good example of a high key image. Very good effort -- will do well in a competition, I'm sure.   Posted: 12/14/2025 23:53:18
