About the Image(s)
This Eagle I think is a parent of an immature Eagle I was photographing on the ice. It was sitting several hundred feet away in a tree along with its mate watching , as I was, the antics of the immature Eagle on the thin ice on the blog. Then suddenly it flew from the tree, luckily, I was alert enough and was able to capture it as it passed by position. All happened at my “happy place” Crex Meadows Wisconsin Nature Reserve in Grantsburg, WI.
Nikon D7200, Nikon 300 f4 (450mm FF), 1/2000, f8.0, iso 400, Spot Metering, Handheld. Processed raw file in LR basic sliders.

Nice image Steve! The stare and concentration is compelling. I like the fact that all of the white plumage and head is covered by the darker wing - that really helps.
The decision of how much of the surrounding environment to include is always a personal preference. In this case, the snowy area and vegetation emerging from the snow adds to the story. Lovely.   Posted: 04/18/2025 12:09:25

Wow this is such a rich image. The wings perfectly frame the eagle's head and the tail all fanned out adds a lot. All the ice tells a great story.
Compositionally, I like the 2 groups of grasses coming in from the lower left corner. It gives a lead in to the bird, you follow the imaginary line created by the grasses. They also provide some balance. I might consider cropping a small amount from the top so there isn't as much of the brighter field of grass.
I think the eagle's dark feathers are also a bit too light- I'd like to see a bit more contrast and have them be richer dark brown, which I think you can do and still maintain the wonderful feather detail.
A lovely image and good job taking advantage of the quick opportunity.   Posted: 04/19/2025 23:53:51
