About the Image(s)
About: We’re lucky to have these little flycatchers in many local parks. The males are bright red, so always eye-catching. They typically sit on perches looking for bugs to go after, and often they’re pretty open like this. I’ve learned to pay attention to the light hitting the face and watch for a catchlight in the eye. Without it, the dark eye in that dark stripe can be hard to see. Nikon Z8, 600mm, 1/2000 f/7.1 ISO800.

Hi Cindy,
Your image is very eye catching. The attention to the catch light is spot on. The color is appealing.

Agreement with both comments. The overall color balance seems to be spot-on. Nice contrast and sharpness. Simple but elegant.   Posted: 04/16/2025 16:12:52
Cindy, a lovely portrait of an interesting bird. I agree that a square crop works well with this type of simple clean image. I think I would be inclined to position the bird slightly to the left of the square, but that's nitpicking!   Posted: 04/18/2025 12:14:56
Cindy, excellent capture of a very "active" in great light to boot. ;) Nicely done.   Posted: 04/18/2025 13:03:37
