About the Image(s)

About: On my trip to Brazil’s Pantanal a year ago, Snail Kites were one of the most abundant birds we saw. Hundreds streamed overhead each evening, returning to their roosts. In the daytime we encountered them feeding in the wetlands. Although they’re known to eat Apple Snails, these were eating other crustaceans like crabs. I’m not sure what the prey is that this one is carrying off. Nikon Z8, 500mm, 1/2000 f/7.1 ISO500. Processing: Cropped and not much else.

Cindy, an extra nice image of a snail kite, sharp, good color, good detail with prey and in flight. Very nice. Bruce   Posted: 03/12/2025 12:20:18

You stopped the action very well here with the wings in a perfect V position. Having prey in its beak always adds to the story and the action of the image. Good color balance, but perhaps the bird is a little dark, at least on my monitor. Adding a vignette might help, but well done.   Posted: 03/13/2025 16:25:42

Another excellent in flight action capture ... nicely done. Always bonus in these photos if one get something extra and you did with it's prey. Thanks to all you folks who travel about the world and share your experiences. :)   Posted: 03/15/2025 10:13:39

Cindy - very envious of you going to the Pantanal area - we were due to go in the Covid period! Must rebook!

This is lovely! It's very well taken and presented. All looks perfect to me.   Posted: 03/21/2025 18:46:34
