The Canada Goose must be truly one of my favorites to photograph for I have a “boat load” of their photos. Why … I admire their size, lovely blending feathers, their flight patterns, the “honking” in flight, family life, and the sheer numbers in both the wild and human inhabited locations. I chose this one for it is a recent early spring (March 2024) photo made at my famous place for birds, Crex Meadows, Wisconsin, USA. I tried to capture it’s environment and how majestically (in my eyes) it is floating along the bank of an island within the flowage near it’s soon to be built nest. Fujifilm XT5, 100-400 at 243mm (365 FF), f7.1, 1/4000 sec, 1600 ISO, handheld using my Jeep as a blind; Processed raw file in LR basic sliders and Topaz Denoise.

Serene portrait of a bird relaxing in it's environment, perhaps looking ahead to the events of spring and summer. Two aspects of its surroundings -- land and water -- go well together. Well done reproducing the tan and hints of blue color in the water. As the grass may be a little bright near the top, perhaps it could be cropped down.   Posted: 02/15/2025 18:36:55

Yes Steve, they are impressive birds and your image shows 'him' off very nicely - I like the light dry vegetation helps set off the dark head and neck nicely.   Posted: 02/22/2025 00:12:03

Steve, I am with you, Canada Geese are a favorite to photograph. Your goose is very sharp and I like the slight turn of the head. The water and the background have no distracting elements but I feel there is just too much of it. I tried a 4:3 crop and it makes the goose pop. What do you think?   Posted: 02/22/2025 00:29:29
