About the Image(s)

This was taken during a visit to the Alligator Farm near St Augustine, Fl, several years ago (before the pandemic). This place is a mecca for photographers, where you can get 'up close and personal' with a wide variety of birds, especially during nesting season. I captured this spoonbill headed toward me but a bit farther away than would've been optimal. I thought I would give editing this a try, aiming for a half way decent result. After starting out in Camera Raw for basic adjustments I went into Photoshop in order to darken the background so that the bird stood out more, darkened the leading edge of the left wing (I felt it was too hot), went into On1 FX 8 for some dynamic contrast improvement, and finally added a bit of vignette. The vertical orientation is to accommodate the upward sweep ot the wings.

PS -- Many of my 'original' images appear quite soft because I take screen shots of them out of Adobe Bridge.   Posted: 02/09/2025 14:20:32

Jerry, a very nice spoonbill image that is very sharp, nice composition and color with good wing position. Very nice, I can hardly wait for my annual trip to Florida coming up in April or May. Bruce   Posted: 02/19/2025 23:26:08

Jerry - this is a very good image of a spoonbill - I like how we can see the wavy shape of the bill and its eye is nice and prominent. My only preference would be for more canvas for it to fly into - perhaps a square image.   Posted: 02/21/2025 16:14:54
